Dang Adobe! Foiled again!

Apparently, Adobe has released a new Draconian-style license management technique on their new products…

Comments on this should be interesting.  Basically, whenever you attempt to install an Adobe product, the installation tries to connect back to an Adobe license server.

Exception File!

Of course Adobe does not publish this on any web site of thier own, but we investigated the exception process mentioned in the infoworld article.  After being on hold for 55 minutes, we found a nice sales guy who gave us the process.

For users with volume licensing, you still get the same software from the vendor of your choice.

Then log in with your customer ID to the Adobe Licensing Website - you will want to download the "Master Exception File" which appears to have the AME or ME as part of the file name.  If you have difficulty finding the file - Adobe Customer Service should be able to guide you to it.

In a quick test of the lab, it appears that this file will not need to be downloaded each time you purchase more licenses under VLK.  You should only need one Master Exception File for each product.  So no constant patching of the "license server".

The Master Exception is distributed with the installation files - so far we have only tested Acrobat 8 with success.
