MMS Call for Sessions is now open!
30 November 06 02:30 PM | rodtrent | with no comments

Do you want to speak at MMS 2007?  Drop out to the “Call for Sessions” page and submit your ideas for a topic or two:

https://www.mms2007.com/Wizard/call_for_sessions/wp1.aspx

Do it quickly, though.  Microsoft will be pushing through the session selection and scheduling pretty quickly this year (since it’s getting late in 2006).  Final cut will be by the end of December!

If you have been a MMS speaker in the past, you should receive an email shortly.  Since you have MMS speaking experience you’ll be given the first opportunity to submit your ideas and have yours considered first.  The first cut for the past speakers will be early next week.

I had a lot of fun yesterday
30 November 06 07:24 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

Yesterday, I spent a lot of time updating the content for the Microsoft Management Summit Wiki.  This thing is really shaping up.  Not only can you find information and tools for the upcoming MMS 2007, but it also talks about the past MMS’s along with hosting a growing bevy of photos and videos from past events.

Check it out when you get time:

Microsoft Management Summit - Past, Present, Future

…but, we still need your input.  MMS is probably the best Microsoft conference available.  Those that have attended in the past, know that.  If you have attended in the past, have photos, stories, anecdotes, comments, testimonials — anything — and you want to share, drop a note to:  admin@myITforum.com

Altiris and Gartner at odds on Windows Vista acceptance
30 November 06 07:13 AM | rodtrent | 1 comment(s)

Steve Morton, vice president of product management and marketing for IT consultancy Altiris, echos that sentiment. "I think we'll see an uptake immediately. I don't have a really good sense of how this will compare with XP, but I can definitely say there is a pent-up interest. We've been talking about it for a year now."

Altiris services a mostly technical community, which has been following the Vista betas carefully. "They like the security features, the productivity features, [and that] it's organized differently and geared for information discovery," he said

However, Michael Silver, research director with Gartner, is sticking to his conservative estimates that real deployments won't begin until at least 2008, and he says it's not entirely Microsoft's fault. "The ecosystem really isn't as ready as it could be. Things like devices, applications, device drivers, there's a lot of stuff that needs to be supported, and a lot of the ecosystem didn't think Microsoft was going to meet their dates, so a lot of them aren't really ready," he said.

Outlook 2007 - views

I keep receiving this message:

“Outlook 2007 is preparing the requested view”

when clicking to access certain folders in my PST.  It’s almost as if Outlook 2007 is timing out a bit.  Frankly, so far, I’m none too impressed with Office 2007.  It runs a LOT slower than previous versions of Office.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Macrovision® Corporation (Nasdaq:MVSN) today announced the latest version of its AdminStudio packaging solution. The new edition of AdminStudio, version 8.0, includes new testing tools that address customer demand for support of Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. A couple neat things you can participate in
29 November 06 07:55 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

We’ve added a couple new pages/sections to the myITforum.com Wiki that you might find interesting.  I sure do.

The two areas are:

1. The history of SMS, and

2. Microsoft Management Summit (MMS)

Here’s how you can participate…

For the SMS area, send us your stories about working with SMS in it’s various versions, from 1.x to 2.x, and we’ll post them in the Wiki.  These could be from small anecdotes about how version 1.x destroyed your network, to how 2.x was leaps and bounds above earlier versions.  Anything you want to say and share, just drop an email about it.

For the MMS area, there are a couple things you can do to help.  First, we need links to your MMS pictures.  If you have MMS pictures posted on the Internet somewhere, drop us a link and we’ll add it to the Wiki page for MMS.  The other thing you can do is to send us your MMS stories.  MMS is a great place to network with your peers and have a lot of fun, all while learning about Microsoft management products.  Send in those stories and we’ll post them to the MMS Wiki for all to read and see.

Drop your stories and links to:  admin@myITforum.com

Thanks ahead of time!

Taking Outlook 2007 to the next step
28 November 06 07:28 PM | rodtrent | with no comments

Well, after installing Office 2007 and taking a look at the Add-ons I had installed for Outlook 2003, I decided to remove NewsGator and just let Outlook 2007 manage my RSS feeds.  Updating the RSS feeds is just a normal Send/Receive function of Microsoft Outlook.

We’ll see how it goes.  I’ll keep you updated on my progress…
