Another Firefox oddity - the scroll wheel

Published 25 October 06 07:05 AM | rodtrent

I just noticed something else that seems to work strangely within Firefox: the scroll wheel on my mouse.

I love the scroll wheel and count it as one of the greatest inventions of our time.

In IE7, it works like I’m used to.  It’s quick and responsive.

In Firefox, the scroll wheel moves the page much slower.  That’s not a big thing — not a reason to stop using Firefox — but I’m left curious as to why it is so.  If you want to get to the bottom of a page, it can be a tad bit frustrating.  I don’t see any options in Firefox to improve the scrolling speed, so I assume the option is not there.  I’ll have to do some more digging on this dilemma.

Maybe if you go to the config page, by typing about:config in the address bar, then filter on mousewheel, there may be settings you can play with.

about:config is where loads of settings are, and even can be added to.  Its a bit like the Firefox registry.
