Mozy (www.mozy.com), launched earlier this year, is the first to offer free online backup to the consumer with enterprise quality features. Other companies like xDrive and Connected.com have offered online backup, but they have charged super high prices for their service. Mozy offers 2 GB of free backup, and sells 30 GB for just $4.95 a month. Mozy is able to offer enterprise quality features for a price that is 5x - 10x less expensive because the founder Josh Coates developed new proprietary cluster technology that can scale to millions of users and billions of files. Mozy’s investors include Tim Draper who invested early in Hotmail and Skype, and Drew Major who co-founded Novell.
