My son -- the track star -- who would have thought?
29 March 06 04:47 PM | rodtrent | 5 comment(s)

My oldest, Alex, in his first track meet ever, came within 2 seconds from breaking the state record for the 200 and 400 last night.  Amazing!  And, he’s only a Freshman.

Since it’s his first year of track, he slowed down at the end, not knowing he should run through the finish line instead of slowing down.  If he hadn’t slowed down he would have beat it completely.  I can’t wait for the next meet.  He was about 100 yards from the nearest competitor.  He totally blew everyone away.

I was in the stands pushing him on, but it really is a great thing to watch your son do so well.  The coaches believe he will break National records this year in the 200, 400, long jump, and in the high jump.  His long jump record, so far, is 20.2 feet.

You will all get to meet him at MMS this year, since the whole Trent clan will be attending.  Hope to see you there.

BOF at MMS

This year the SMS Documentation Team is proposing to present a Birds of a Feather session called "Content Innovations for SMS". At this session I plan to demonstrate the new hot fixing process we developed with the SMS product team for updating the SMS help chm without having to wait for a service pack, demonstrate and solicit feedback about the Help On The Box (HOTB)  and Help On The Web (HOTW) concepts for delivering content, as well as the new TechCenter concept, and solicit feedback about other outstanding questions we have concerning content including content organization, alternate delivery mechanisms (such as hosting the entire content set on an SMS site), and web-based video How To topics. Last year the Birds of a Feather session we hosted helped us to formulate the direction we've taken with the SMS v4 HOTB and HOTW content sets, and this year we'd like to "prove" that idea and make any course corrections we need to make early on in the process. We highly value our customers' input and expect this session to be just as beneficial to us and the product team.

Birds of a Feather sessions are chosen by the "vote" of the attendees. You can select or propose as many sessions as you like, and you are not obligated to attend a session you select. If you or any of your customers are attending MMS this year, I ask if you would please select our session as one of your choices. We'd really like the documentation team to be represented this year, and you can help!

Here's what they need to do:
  1. Log in to the conference site.
  2. On the attendee home page, select BOF survey on the left navigation pane
  3. From the drop down selection menu for Commonly Requested Topics, select Discuss innovations in SMS Documentation
I appreciate your consideration, and I look forward to seeing you at the conference this year! Please pass the word along!

One of the most valuable benefits of attending the Microsoft Management Summit is the post-show DVD which carries recordings of every keynote and breakout session at the event as well as copies of all hands-on lab manuals. This invaluable reference allows attendees to review every session presented during MMS 2006. In addition, all registered attendees of this year’s MMS event will receive a copy of the post show DVD from the Microsoft Tech Ed 2006 conference, offering access to a broad range of sessions covering all of Microsoft’s products and services

Internet Explorer ActiveX Update
21 March 06 09:27 AM | rodtrent | 1 comment(s)

Summary

Microsoft will be making some necessary changes to Microsoft Windows desktop operating system software related to the way in which Internet Explorer handles some web pages.  The purpose of this communication is to provide additional information on the planned IE Active X update for Windows® client and server, and to point organizations and website developers to technical information. These changes are related to Internet Explorer and the Eolas Technologies and the Regents of the University of California v. Microsoft patent case (Eolas v. Microsoft).  The IE Active X update will be rolled-up and included in the next available Internet Explorer security update, which could come as soon as the April 2006 Bulletin release. This update will be required via Windows Update and Automatic Update.

Recommended Action

Microsoft recommends that organizations evaluate their internal applications with this update.  Testing can be done by installing the update on a client machine and navigating to web pages/applications in IE.  Application owners can update their web pages using the techniques suggested on MSDN at http://msdn.microsoft.com/ieupdate, to ensure controls will function without user interaction.

Customers who do not deploy the next available Internet Explorer security update, which includes the IE Active X update, will not receive the most current security patches and may put their environment at risk.

Known Issues

Please see compete list of known issues - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912945/en-us

The IE Active-X update will affect all Siebel 7 High Interactive clients. After you apply this security update, you will have to click several times to interact with the Siebel program, one time for each ActiveX control in the program. Siebel is working with Microsoft to identify a solution. A Siebel product update is expected to release in the spring of 2006. For more information about Siebel product updates, visit the following Siebel Support Web site: https://ebusiness.siebel.com/supportweb/
