A new web site
30 October 05 09:10 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

You’ve heard of the momcommunity.com which I’ve posted about before, but there’s a new one that went up recently.  Duncan posted about it recently (he’s a co-founder), and he used to post to the Collective Technologies web blog.

Here’s his recent post to the SMS and MOM lists:

A note from Duncan McAlynn, co-founder and SMS MVP:

A new community-powered and preserved website strictly dedicated to SMS and MOM is now online. SMSMOM.COM is sponsored by a few community-based contributors and dedicated to maintaining a vendor-free portal for information sharing and community building.
In addition to the standard forum, downloads, & FAQ features of most IT-related websites, here's a list of some of the unique items you'll find at www.smsmom.com/ :
  • Member blogs
  • Image galleries
  • Buddy lists, add/block
  • Skin chooser
  • Calendar

Almost 20,000 members!
30 October 05 09:07 AM | rodtrent | with no comments
It’s great to see that we have close to 20,000 members in the community.  This number grows every day and it really makes me happy to see this.  SMS and MOM has been our main focus, but we have so many members with additional abilities that encompass the entire IT areas.  If there are additional areas you think we need to cover, let me know.

I may have to return this
23 October 05 11:13 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

I talked about this recently (http://www.myitforum.com/blog/rtrent/archive/2005/10/18/16016.aspx) and was excited about receiving it.  After testing it for a few days, it simply doesn’t work right.  Every time you push the phone into the case, the buttons on the left side of phone are pushed “on”.  I simply can’t use this case if inserting the phone makes the PDA come on and waste battery.  I don’t recommend this case.

Another thing that bugs me about the case is that it is a “side-fit” — i.e., you have to carry it on your belt sideways.  That can be tough to handle riding in a car that has an arm rest.  The “easy access” marketing doesn’t really make the phone any easier to retrieve.

Interesting...

So…I told you about coaching at our local schools for the 5th grade Basketball team.  Well, tonight I was offered another team — the 7/8th grade team.  I think I’m going to do it.  Wish me luck.  That’ll be 2 teams to coach this season, but I think I can swing it.

Basketball try-outs this Friday

Well — here it goes.  On Friday of this week and Monday of next week, I’ll be hosting try-outs for the basketball team for our local school.  I’m a little nervous thinking that I actually have to cut some kids and then deal with the parents, because of the cuts.  Wish me luck!
MS05-012 not MS05-051 exploit found

Later this evening Trend updated their webpage concerning the TROJ_SSPLOIT.A virus to show that it was not MS05-051, but was MS05-012 instead.  Thanks Microsoft for updating us on this as well.
