No kids.

“But Reed, that Claudia was so entertaining are you sure?”

I am so sure!

As interesting as it may seem to look at a pink bedroom to prevent tears, the mission of these Google+ hangouts is to increase the sense of community and enhance the concurrent System Center Configuration Manager Guru Webcast content. So this month’s Hangout will be exclusively for IT professionals.

“You couldn’t boot her, so how can you prevent her from joining?”

To get in to this month’s Hangout you either have to be in my Circles or be invited in by me or one of the other participants. So, go to my Google+ profile page if I don’t have you circled, Circle me and send me a note so I may Circle you. Click the sticker for my Google+ page:

It’s MDT November! That means we get to hear from one of our favorites, Mr. Michael Niehaus! He’s going to talk Task Sequences, passing information to them, and how to troubleshoot if something does not go as planned. So get over to the BDNA SCCM Guru Webcast Sign-up page and Sign-up, duh. Then show-up at 1:00 pm CDT on November 17, 2011 to listen to what Michael has to say.

Google+ Hangout Info

  1. Make sure you are in my Circles (see above)
  2. At approx. 12:45 CDT 11/17/2011, go to my Google+ profile
  3. Mute your Microphone and click Join Hangout.
  4. If you get to my profile and do not see a Join button, send me an email to Gmail address: reedracer
  5. If you are not on Google+, send me an email and I will send you an invite.

P.S. If you have missed any of the prior webcasts, they are available for replay at:

It’s Rodtober and that means Rod is another year older! It also means it will be Rod Trent sitting in the hot seat for this month’s SCCM Guru Webcast on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 1:00 PM CST! (click to register). He’s got the G.I. Joe Method for Troubleshooting Configuration Manager 2007.

I’ll once again be hosting a Google+ Hangout during Rod’s SCCM Guru Webcast. We have found that sitting together in a hangout while watching and listening to a presentation enhances the information as we can see each other agree and ask questions in the hangout before sending them up to the webcast.

This is the third G+ Hangout during a BDNA webcast. The prior ones during Kim Oppalfens Webcast in August and John Nelson’s in September. Let’s make Rod’s webcast the best attended to date and let’s blow the doors of the Google+ Hangout!

Since we will be listening to a web cast, you will want to mute or disable your microphone right away. Also note, there is a limit of 10-15 people in a hangout. If you can’t get in, let me know. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get you in this time, but if there is enough interest we can make arrangements for either multiple hangouts or a bigger venue next month. So, at 1PM CST 26, October, 2011, mute your mic and head over to: https://plus.google.com/u/0/102202755075892040711/posts and join the fun!

The much anticipated Rage by Bethesda and Id Software is out today for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. From the comparison screen shots below, Rage looks like it will be totally of the charts and I can’t wait to play it! Are you getting it? Which platform?

John Nelson’s turn in the SCCM Guru Webcast Series is today, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 1:00 PM CST! (click to register). These webcasts are sponsored by BDNA and hosted by MyITForum.com and have been outstanding so far.

During Kim Oppalfens Webcast last month, I decided to hold a Google+ Hangout at the same time.  This had the effect of sitting in a theater with friends and listening to a lecture. You can nod your head in agreement, ask each other something that occurs to you because of something said, and encouraging a friend to raise their hand for illumination about a point. I believe it really enhanced what Kim was doing and helped me pay attention better.

Today I will be hosting another Google+ hangout during John Nelson’s SCCM Guru Webcast.  Since we will be listening to a web cast, you will want to mute or disable your microphone right away. Also note, there is a limit of 10-15 people in a hangout.  If you can’t get in, let me know. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get you in this time, but if there is enough interest we can make arrangements for Rod’s Webcast in Rodtober for either multiple hangouts or a bigger venue.

This event occurred and was a blast!

Thanks for all who attended. If you could not get in, consider running one with your user group or with others where you work.  Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Mark Gentile met with me to talk about Odyssey Software’s Athena. Athena is a deviceodyssey management product that can extend the System Center Configuration Manager console to  give the administrator some nifty tools for remotely managing mobile devices. I was very impressed with the clean interface and integration into the console.

Odyssey Software is a MyITforum.com sponsor.

The Pablo Palooza band started playing at about 8pm at the MyITForum.com party. And they did rock! The band members are:

    Magic Dave Roberts-Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals
    George Knight-Bass, Vocals
    Mark Hobbs-Guitar, Vocals
Mike Velvet Davis-Vocals, Percussion, Chick magnet
    Paul Gonzalez-Drums, Vocals

They are not just another band out of Boston. Paul Gonzalez is a long time member of the MyITForum community and we are unsure whether he was on or off vacation while in Las Vegas. But either way, we sure are glad he was there.

The opening set was a strong mix and got the crowd jumping:

In this video, I tried to catch people in the audience. Were you there?

And the third video shows the band from the wings.

I know, you just can’t get enough of these guys! Be sure to go watch the videos in HD on YouTube and sign up for the PabloPalooza fan page on Facebook!

Rod Trent introduces the sponsors who help make MyITForum.com possible and pay for the MyITForum.com’s exclusive “Buttons Only” party. In the first video, Rod introduces Viewfinity, Matrix42, Secure Vantage Technologies (SVT), and Microsoft

In the second video Garth Jones and Ed Aldrich present Rod and Ron Crumbaker with a plaque commemorating 10 years of MyITForum.com. Next Ron calls out the booth babes and myself. Lastly, Ed talks about 1E and their long history supporting MyITForum.com

They had the stage lights off during these videos, but I was able to brighten them a bit. Enjoy!

Dwain Kinghorn helped create SMS and was CTO at Altiris. He has always had his finger on the pulse of systems management and seems to zig when others zag to produce winner after winner.

Now with venture capital and startup consulting group SageCreek Partners, Dwain is on Viewfinity's Board of Advisors. Viewfinity has several interesting products which include a system change recorder with rollback, privilege management systems, and user settings migration tools. The key to Viewfinity’s products is that they run in the cloud and are therefore available to systems in many scenarios where traditional systems management tools are unable to reach.

Here Dwain discusses their cloud-based management model with myITforum.com CTO Ron Crumbaker.  I was privileged to record the interview and am very thankful to both Ron and Dwain for the opportunity.

On Monday, April 19, 2010 Microsoft Management Summit 2010 at the Sands Expo In Las Vegas, NV officially begins! With the beginning of the conference people are connecting with friends both old and new, jockeying for position in a variety of lines, and begging each vendor for inclusion at their party.  It’s a whirlwind day; the first of many and if you’re looking for Wally, he’s probably in the Labs area.

This opening day I held the Social Networking for Codgers breakfast at Harrahs Flavors Buffet. There were six of us for breakfast and I decided I would need to hold a more in-depth training for technical people to really do this topic justice. High profile people from all walks need to be able to connect and have conversations with their constituents via tools like Facebook and Twitter.  Look for a webinar on this very topic by me in the near future.

Next we went over for registration. Here is where you get your badge and backpack full of goodies. I was able to bypass the rather long line and go right to vendor registration.  On the way out I took the first video of the line and followed by the unboxing of the swag bag.  Be sure to comment below if you see yourself in either video!

From there, I connected with a few friends and made some plans. Then we went to one of the Freshman Orientation sessions and met up with some new friends from the Kansas City area.  Hopefully, we can get the Kansas City Area Systems Management Users Group going again.  Look for a meeting in June at the earliest.

The opening day Vendor Expo is essentially a party with brochures and swag. What’s really cool about the #MMS2010 opening party is the mad dash to get a MyITForum party button. Much like Charlie’s Golden Ticket, the MyITForum party button gets you into the party.

The second video chronicles a couple of guys waiting over 2 hours to be first in line for their button, many of the folks receiving their buttons, a celebrity ex-hockey player, and a couple prizes won.

What it does not show is the mad rush itself. I had the camera on pause and missed the entire thing. The camera and my video taping experience were barely two weeks old at the time. (Which explains why so many attendees appear to be missing their heads!)

If you want to see the mad rush, you’ll just have to join us for MMS 2011 at Mandalay Bay.  Until then imagine, if you will, you are standing in a dry river bed somewhere out west. You’re expectant, but not too worried when you hear a voice in the sky intone, “The 2001 Microsoft Management Summit Expo is now open.” This is followed by a rumbling in the distance growing quickly louder.  You look toward the sound and you see a herd of desert creatures bounding toward you as they attempt to escape a flood of amber liquid rushing after them. You are thinking you should move, but you look around and do not see any reachable safe havens. Just as you think it is about time to let your bowels go and give up the ghost, the charging herd stops as quick as it started.  Then the wave of amber liquid engulfs you and you admonish folks to try to keep their beer in the cup rather than all over everybody else.

Think I am exaggerating? Test me, sign up for #MMS2011.  I hope I see you there! Come back tomorrow for more from last week’s summit.

MyOTRadio Live this week was a bust. But I made you a special!

My fourth special podcast leading up to Microsoft Management Summit 2010 April 19-23 in Las Vegas is another drivecast.  I am driving west out of Jefferson City, MO through California, MO on April 16, 2010.

I talk about how much we are going to miss many of System Center’s Rock Stars due to the eruption of the volcano that cannot be spelled spewing ashes into the atmosphere and making it unsafe to fly manmade craft out of or into Western Europe. We miss you guys, I do hope you can get together and see some of the event.

This also means there may be some extra room for last minute fill-ins if you still want to come.  It also means there are some parties with some room for substitutions, so get your best game face on and be sure to watch The Replacements as a refresher.

I also list out some more trick and tips for getting the most out of MMS2010 and announce my Social Media for Codgers Tweetup. I realize it says codgers and suggests you be a Social Media Noob to benefit, but all are welcome!  Come meet some of the other folks.

That's right, I’m posting from DIA waiting for flight 777 to Las Vegas.  That’s how I roll.

Here is the second of 7 MyOTSpecials leading up to the 2010 Microsoft Management Summit April 19-23 at the Venetian in Las Vegas. I’m a little winded as I walk up the hill towards the Missouri State Capital Building. I talked about the possibility of grabbing our swarm badge on Foursquare.com and other relevant news about #MMS2010

Miss Atom BombThere are a ton of incredibly cool things in store for us out in the atomic city, so be prepared to be blown away! Hopefully only figuratively blown away as those nukes ain't too fun.
