I've stopped the cigarettes for around 5 months now due to Champix, and I thought I'd pass on my thoughts for smokers and non-smokers alike to consider.
I blogged about starting a course of Champix at the tail end of July 2010, and I have to say, it's a pretty effective way to stop smoking The second month, no smoking, and all urges were entirely gone. Prompts and triggers are ineffective at inducing lapses, even now.
I found this a lot easier than using the patches. Perhaps it could be seen as premature of me to announce the ghost of past habits, but I'm really happy with the way Champix scrubs you, or leads too it, leaves you ready to put the old habit down with ease. Knowing Pfizer's, who made Champix, this probably started as an erection drug but had a profoundly different result, akin to Sildenafil which was for Heart disease but ended up giving old men boners in the form of Viagra!
If you fancy giving up smoking, in your own time, when you're ready, I'd recommend booking an appointment to visit your GP\Doctor and asking about Champix. There are some side effects, I didn't really get anything worth noting to be honest, but as we are all individuals and biologically different, you're mileage may vary ;-)
Obviously I take no responsibility if Champix mutates you in to a weirdo, with super-powers, that likes to fly around with their pants on the outside of their trousers, or has any other detrimental effect or bearing on you ok.
That is the end of Rob's Public Health announcement :-)
