Microsoft Confirms Lync 2010 Plans

The latest version of Microsoft's unified communications solution is set to be unveiled next month in New York.

Lync may not be a familiar name Microsoft watchers or the IT community at large, but the software giant is working mightily to raise the profile of its renamed unified communications software.

As VoIP Planet reports, Microsoft plans to officially unveil the latest version of its unified communications solution at event in New York next month. Microsoft has high hopes for Lync 2010, which it says "takes collaboration and productivity to the next level." Lync 2010 will be available soon as it's already been released to manufacturing.


Microsoft's recently renamed and updated unified communications (UC) solution, Lync Server 2010, reached a key milestone this week, and the company is preparing to hold the official launch event soon.

UC has been a grail for many in the communications industry for a number of years and, certainly, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) can't be accused of not focusing on the subject repeatedly -- without a lot of success until the advent of Office Communications Server (OCS).
