I’ve been beating my head against the wall trying to find a solution for this error one user is having with Outlook 2003.

The user is getting this Task ‘Microsoft Exchange Server – Recieving’ reported error (0x8004010F): ‘The operation failed.  An object could not be found.’

It seems to happen whenever he is sending a message and receives a message at the same time.

We do not keep the mail on the servers here, we download all mail to a local PST file.

We are running Exchange 2003 SP1 and Office 2003 SP2 with all the latest patches.

I’ve tried all the relevant suggestions found on Google, but none seem to solve the issues.

Anyone have a suggestion?  I have wiped and reloaded the PC and it still seems to happen.

Another user has gotten this error, but not as frequent as the other user.

If using pop3 - have you tried sniffing the traffic using ethereal.

Capture the traffic and then right click on the pop3 line in the list and go "Follow TCP Stream".

Your server may be reporting an error which outlook does not know how to report.

Other things could be av software catching the connection to the server and messing it up?

Good luck

Ron,
When I had this problem, I googled alot as well. It wsn't until mucking around that we resolved the issue by rebuilding the address book in Exchange, BUT we had to rebuild it twice to get it fixed (!). I rebuilt it following what I have pasted in below:

> This worked for me (Exchange 2003):
>
> Exchange System Manager:
> Goto Recipients->Offline Address Lists->Default > Offline Address list, right click and select
> rebuild.
>
> That's all. It works fine now.

All the troubleshouting I found was for a server. But I do not have any server. It's just a normal POP3 account with Outlook 2003. The error occured suddenly. Before it works good. I think I did not changed anything in that that time.

The account is oke with Outlook Express.

Who can help me ??

Thanks from Holland.

I've just had to solve this problem within our IT dept.

Google talked of Server errors, and being a Server issue. Problem was to do with local distribution lists and read receipts.

I found that the person that was having the problem, only seemed to be getting it whilst sending to local distribution lists. And the problem that was coming back was a receiving error as the local DL could not be found in the global list for a read receipt to return.

Issue was resolved by recreating the lists and turning off read receipts for local DL's.

I don't know if this is of any use but it solved my issue. Link

Product: Exchange
Event ID: 9333
Source: MSExchangeSA
Version: 6.5.7596.0
Message: OALGen encountered error %1 while opening the base offline address list public folder. Please make sure that a public folder replica exists. %2

Explanation
This Error event indicates that OALGen experienced an error when it tried to rebuild an offline address list. Specifically, it experienced an error when it opened the base offline address list public folder. A common cause for this problem is that there are currently no replicas of the offline address list system folders. Your Microsoft® Outlook® clients will not be able to download offline address lists until you resolve this problem.

A common symptom of this error is that Outlook clients report the following error message in the Outlook synchronization folder:

"Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.'

User Action
To resolve this error

Add public folder replicas for the offline address book systems folders by doing the following:

In Exchange System Manager, expand Administrative Groups, and then click Folders.

Right-click Public Folders, and then click View System Folders.

Expand the OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK object.

Under OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK, right-click o=org/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List, and then click Properties.

On the Replication tab, verify that a public folder store is entered in the Replicate content to these public stores box. If a public folder store is not entered, click Add, and then enter the appropriate public store for the offline address book.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Expand o=org/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List.

Under o=org/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List, right-click OAB Version 2, and then click Properties. On the Replication tab, verify that a public folder store is entered in the Replicate content to these public stores box. If a public folder store is not entered, click Add and then enter the appropriate public store for the offline address book.

Repeat this step for the OAB Version 3a and OAB Version 4 folders. The OAB Version 4 folder will only be present if you are using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Rebuild the offline address list specified in the event message by doing the following:

In Exchange System Manager, in the console tree, double-click Recipients, and then click Offline Address Lists.

In the details pane, right-click the offline address list you want to rebuild, and then click Rebuild.
