Windows Live Strategy Inches Forward, Slowly

Microsoft is continuing to flesh out its Windows Live strategy, on Wednesday releasing beta versions of Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Live Folders. The additions will join Windows Live Mail Desktop, Windows Live Writer, and a number of other applications as part of the Windows Live Suite.

Early Store Closings Before iPhone Launch

Apple and AT&T will close their stores early tomorrow in preparation for the iPhone launch. The former will shut the doors at its 164 retail locations at 2:00 p.m. and the latter at 4:30 p.m., before re-opening at 6:00 p.m. to start selling the iPhone. The stores will stay open until midnight.

Caller ID spoofing about to be outlawed

Today the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation has passed S. 704, a bill that would make it a crime to spoof caller ID. Dubbed the "Truth in Caller ID Act of 2007," the bill would outlaw causing "any caller identification service to transmit misleading or inaccurate caller identification information" via "any telecommunications service or IP-enabled voice service." Law enforcement is exempted from the rule.

Blu-ray Lures Customers with Free Movies

Learning from its HD DVD rival, the Blu-ray Disc Association has launched a new promotion in which it will offer five free movies to purchasers of Blu-ray players -- including Sony's PS3 -- between July 1st and September 30th. Customers can choose 5 titles out of a list of 21.
