OK, we all know that manifests (or more accurately Configuration Items, or CIs in SCCM terminology) are the real meat of the CM solution, and the hardest and most time consuming to prepare.

We at 1E are looking into finding a way to help ease that burden, while also working with Microsoft's DCM PM team on the SCCM implementation as well, so here are a couple of things to chew on.

First off, we know that there are a handful of very basic CIs that come with the DCM download. We at 1E would like to take a couple, maybe as many as three, and try to build them out to provide more detail than what is currently provided. Once done, we will make them available to the community at large. In addition we *may* also make a stab at whipping up a better authoring tool as well. All that being said, which three CIs are on your wish list for us to take on and try to beef up, and why did you choose the ones you did?

Next, we'd like to help the SCCM team in Redmond to work out DCM in SCCM2k7. While we already know that there will be some massaging of today's CIs to allow them to work in SCCM, it is important for the Program Team to understand what you are doing today. The best way to accomplish that is to submit CIs to Redmond. After tossing this around with the PM, I'd like to offer up out a means whereby they can be provided with YOUR CIs so they can analyze what you are doing, see what is important to you, and so on. This will better help them to understand what is important to the DCM community... that would be all of YOU who are subbed into this forum. I've agreed to act as a clearing house or single point of contact in this regard to simplify the communications and interaction between this community and the Program Team. If you send me your CIs, I'll consolidate them and send them ALL on to the Redmond DCM Program Team. Here's a quote from them in this regard:

"The best way you can ensure compatibility of content you have authored is to send it to me now! That way, we can include your real-world CIs in our test suite and make sure the tool can handle your scenarios. We can also ensure we have guidance for how to hand-convert any content that is not translated by the tool. If you are comfortable sharing your CIs with me, please do send them on. I will ensure that your CIs are not shared outside of the DCM/SCCM team without your express permission.
