MMS 2006 DVD Online Certification Study Groups - hosted by Microsoft and myITforum.com We alluded to this the other day, that there was something special coming down the path for the myITforum.com community. Well, today we can announce it a little more formally, with more information coming as the details are ironed out. Very soon (during the next couple weeks) we will be hosting online “Study Groups” for Microsoft certification tests. This has not really been done before, so we’re pretty excited. You will be able to spend time with your peers, studying and scrutinizing the Microsoft exams together. No need to pay for training classes or grabbing huge, 3rd party training materials. It will all be free, filtered through myITforum.com. What this entails is a login to LiveMeeting with all the bells and whistles just like a regular Microsoft WebCast, except you all will be able to participate. The best part, is that if you cannot work around your schedule to attend, it will be recorded and provided as a PodCast on the myITforum.com site so you can still listen in your car, on the weekends, in bed, or wherever! Microsoft's on a Shopping Spree Yesterday, the big news was Microsoft’s purchase of Winternals Software and Sysinternals, with both co-founders of the company heading to Microsoft for employment. Around the time the announcement was released, several community email lists and forums were chatting about the acquisition — not because of the acquisition itself, but because community folks were worried they wouldn’t be able to get the Sysinternals utilities for FREE anymore. So, everyone starting flocking to the soon defunct web sites to download as quickly as they could. This caused the Winternals site to be horrid slow. I read one post from someone who spent over an hour and half just to download 9MB worth of utilities. But, still. Think about it. There are many more small companies like Winternals that provide a huge benefit to every day IT admins. Who is next? That's pretty dang good. The membership of myITforum.com is increasing steadily, too. I'm glad to see things finally getting back to where they were prior to our move away from community "hosts". One of the things that has really helped is the Web blogs on myITforum.com. Are you reading them? The Web blogs are seeing tremendous traffic because of the great information that is being posted there -- both technical and personal.
