Application Support Technician

Location: Glendale, CA
Employment type: Contract (3-6 months)
Salary: $ 20-$30 per hour

This is a contract position.
 
Please see the enclosed job description:

This candidate needs to be:
– Able to edit a series of Windows INI files
– Experienced using File Comparing tools is necessary ("Beyond Compare" and "WinDiff")
– Able to effectively interpret and use "File Compare" results
– Able to create "App Fixes" using Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit (version 4 and higher
– Able to use tracking tools such as "InCtrl5" take the information gained from it, and make the necessary adjustments to installer's INI files to duplicate the original's install behavior.
– Effective troubleshooting and problem solving skills – The candidate needs to be capable of taking the information they've gained from the various tools mentioned above and create a solution that is simple, effective, and does not impair the company’s product or the client's computer system.
– Able to make corrections based on someone else's findings, work in conjunction with other departments within the company to develop solutions for various problems. 
– Able to work closely with others within different departments (e.g. Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Support, etc.)
– Able to communicate the needs, current progress, any potential problems. 
– Able to work within tight deadlines

As added preferences, possibly more broad in nature:
– Detail oriented in order to meet "Quality Assurance" standards.
– Technically oriented - The work is 90% PC software related.  Knowledge of PC hardware and trouble shooting of product failures is a bonus
– Excellent PC knowledge - an excellent working knowledge of the Windows Environment is necessary. The user should be very familiar with using various Windows integrated tools (e.g. dxdiag, regedit, etc.)
Mac knowledge is a bonus - the ability to use the Mac OS and create "hybrid CDs is an added bonus.
– Familiarity with the following development tools is also a bonus - Microsoft Visual Studio, InstallShield 12, InstallShield Pro 7, Nero Burning ROM, Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit, InCtrl5, NeoBook, various Microsoft SDKs, Macromedia Director, etc.  The candidate does not have to know how to use all of these tools, but familiarity with them certainly helps
