Join the Dell I/T Desktop Engineering team!

Reporting to the Desktop Engineering Management for DELL I/T Engineering (GTES) in Austin Texas, the Wintel System Engineer (SE) will lead projects and deployments to the global desktop platform and internal applications based on Windows XP Desktop operating systems. Good communication skills is a must in this position. This SE should also be a critical thinker and have the ability to help innovate new solutions. The SE should also be up to date on the high tech industry and be willing to share the knowledge with others on the team. The SE should haveAdvanced/Expert level knowledge of Microsoft client technologies specific to the large-scale installation and maintenance of the OS, application integration and enterprise systems management. The SE Must be able to research and solve complex problems independently, provide final-level troubleshooting and guidance, and handle escalations to software or hardware vendors. Should have eexperience with SMS/SUS and automated software distribution of security patches and applications. This team is global in nature. The SE should possess a strong understanding of global teams and the aability to deal with ambiguity, think synthetically, and succeed with limited information and fast change. Other requirements are:   Strong communication skills and understanding of the overall desktop platform.  A critical thinker- one that knows how to innovate new solutions. Strong scripting ability with VB and related WSH technology, CMD shell, PERL or others. Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, Citrix, VMware and similar enterprise infrastructure technologies in all areas of systems administration. Broad expertise configuring and troubleshooting a wide range of desktop software and components, including MS Office and productivity applications, Symantec Anti-Virus and systems management components, and various enterprise client components. Proven experience with enterprise disk imaging solutions like Ghost, PowerQuest and similar technologies. Strong hardware skills to diagnose, install and support a large variety of personal computing devices and peripherals in-depth. Solid understanding of Internet, network and security technologies as they apply to the client system including browser, NAT, firewalls, PKI, IP connectivity, and Ethernet technology. Working knowledge of software development environments and related tools including Microsoft VSS, ASP, JavaScript and others. Ability to deal with ambiguity, think synthetically, and succeed with limited information and fast change. BS/BA or equivalent experience and 3-5 years of enterprise level, professional experience required.
    Functional Technical Requirements:   Work with business, technical and management personnel at all levels to define and improve global standards for the Windows Desktop operating systems and related technologies. Create and foster a relationship with internal product group. Provide technology consulting, occasional presentations, and serve as a key project team member on a variety of infrastructure and business projects. Prioritize and maintain project work, including software or infrastructure deployments, software development, product evaluations and enhancements. Provide 3rd level support of Windows Desktop operating systems to Operations Tech Leads. Manage vendor relationships for enterprise client products and operating systems. Create software tools and scripts, as well as technical documents, policies, training materials and web sites. Package or repackage software as required to ensure smooth enterprise deployments.  Develop standard desktop image processes and tools to automate Operating System deployment. Centrally define and manage Group Policy and Active Directory requirements. Continually maintain knowledge of existing and emerging technologies to guide the organization’s direction.
