Email discussion lists back up and running!

Hi, folks!

I just wanted to give you a quick update on the new email lists. We have successfully moved our lists to our new hosting company and off the ListLeague servers. The information contained in this email alert are important if you want to continue to participate in the myITforum.com email discussion lists. The new software we are using is easy to manage, the performance is stellar, and you'll have the ability to peruse archives in a web browser (without the ListLeague way of downloading and extracting based on a date range). I already hear some of you standing to your feet and clapping.

Lists that are current available for Subscription

As you read about how to subscribe in the next section of this email alert, you'll want to refer back to this information. You'll see why in a little bit. The following lists are now available:

How to Subscribe to the new lists

Here's what you need to know, to be able to Subscribe to any of the new lists on myITforum.com.

  1. Create a new email.
  2. In the TO: line of the email, input the following email address: command@lists.myitforum.com
  3. Now, in the BODY of the email (NOT the subject line), type the following command:

Subscribe "listname"

Important NOTE: The "listname" value is actually the List Name in the previous section of this email alert. For example if you wanted to subscribe to the Microsoft Systems Management Server list, you would type the following into the BODY of the email: Subscribe mssms

See I told you the earlier information would be important.

  1. Send the email.

Once the myITforum.com list server receives your email, it will respond with a reply email telling you that you have successfully subscribed, and give you a list of additional email commands you can use to manage your list subscription.

Other ways to manage your list subscription

Here are the other list commands that are available to you, so that you can effectively manage your list subscription.

Help - Replies to the email with basic instructions on using List Serv Commands.

Help "listname" - Replies to the email with the contents of the Help E-Mail for that list.

List - Replies to the email with a list of all available lists.

Subscribe "listname" - Adds your email address to the subscribers list of the mailing list.

Unsubscribe "listname" - Removes your email address from the subscribers list for the mailing list.

Set mode digest "listname" - Sets your email address to receive emails in digest mode, which will send all messages for the list combined into one email at regular intervals.

Set mode standard "listname" - Sets your email address to receive emails in standard mode (the default), which will send messages one at a time to your email account.

More to come...

This is just the start of the migration of the myITforum.com email discussion lists. We now have the ability to continue to grow the lists without the fear of bringing down the server!

Eventually, we will have a nice graphic form on the myITforum.com web site, where you can subscribe and unsubcribe from there, instead of using email commands. But, this is a good solution in the interim to get you folks back up and running on the lists.

If you have problems subscribing, or with any other aspect of the new lists, just drop me an email at admin@myITforum.com.

Also, if you have suggestions for specific topics you would like to see added to our legendary lists, just drop me an email and we'll consider it.

Thanks for your patience during our move.

If you take part in the mailing lists over at myitforum, you need to resubscribe. They've moved to a new server and are not migrating subscriptions. If you're not subscribed, your missing some great discussion. http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/myitforum/archive/2006/05/27/20658.aspx..
