Are they running windows firewalls?

By the way – you can install and run the ECW from anywhere – it doesn’t have to be the SCOM server…. So you can simply install that on your desktop, or any Exchange server, and run it from there.  It, at a high level simply:

1.       Queries AD for a list of Exchange servers.

2.       Creates test mailboxes

3.       Created matching disabled accounts in AD for each test mailbox.

4.       Configures a mailbox access account to have necessary permissions to log on and send as for each test mailbox.

5.       Writes the services to monitor to each Exchange server registry.  (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeMOM)

6.       Writes the MAPI logon information to each Exchange server registry.  (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeMOM)

7.       Writes the Mail flow information to each exchange server registry.  (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeMOM)

8.       Writes the Exchange mailbox access account information to the registry, and encrypts the password there  ((HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExMPLS)

If the ECW cannot contact each machine and write to the registry, it will fail.

Hi (again),

Well I do have a problem connecting to my Exchange servers, seems permissions related, would this be something I can solve or is it down to my backdoor fiddles? I’m a member of the Domain Admin group.

“Exchange management pack configuration wizard the following servers were automatically excluded from the selection because it was not possible to contact their service control manager to obtain a list of installed services”

?

Cheers

Neal

Hi all (again)

I think I’ve solved this… installed the (unsupported?) ESMWindows7.MSI that’s kicking around. Needed .Net 1.1 to make it work… lo and behold ESM works and so does the Exchange MP configuration wizard install.

Not sure what potholes I may or may not have created but we’ll soon find out…

Subject: [msmom] Exchange 2003 Discovery Wizard on W2K8 - ESM/CDOEXM

Hi all,

I’ve been out of the SCOM loop due to other work and now I’m back. Have built a new R2 installation on Windows 2008 and when trying to install the Exchange 2003 Configuration Wizard have fallen foul of the dreaded “CDOEXM library is not installed on this computer”. The solution is to install Exchange System Manager, which is incompatible with Windows 2008…

I tried the “Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1” workaround, but I still get the error.

Did I miss something that can fix this or am I stuck in a logical error loop?? Is SCOM R2 using Exchange 2003 not supported on Windows 2008?

Thanks!

Neal
