Subject: [msmom] RE: Windows Server 2008 Network Load Balancing Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007
As a best practice – you should not import ANY management packs into production, that you are not ready to tune, and utilize. Deploying any MP, just because it exists, or the technology exists in the company, is a worst practice. It leads to bloated DBs, too many alerts, state changes, and perf collection.
In general, you should import MP’s in your test environments, and begin the evaluation and tuning. Next, move the MP and corresponding override MP into a pre-production or “pilot” environment, and further refine tuning. Then – migrate the MP’s to production, with the immediate commitment of the technology owner, to do final tuning of the MP, including alert, event, perf, statechange, and agent impact evaluation.
If you import a MP into production, while no monitored instances exist – you are also wasting your time. By the time you do have instances of the target MP, there will likely be another updated MP out.
So in short – there is likely no bad impact on the environment overall. It is just not a best practice to do so.

Subject: [msmom] Windows Server 2008 Network Load Balancing Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007
Hi,
We are running with SCOM 2007 sp1. We have Windows Server 2003 Network Load Balancing Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007 and we have this role for win2003 server in my environment so imported the management pack. But now recently we have Windows Server 2008 Network Load Balancing Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007, and imported. But there is no windows 2008 NLB’s in our environment. Is there any bad impact on the environment for this.
Many Thaks,
Narendra
