Subject: [msmom] RE: Disabling notification from specific custom group

Unfortunately – there isn’t a good UI mechanism to create “NOT in” rules, or exclusions, for notifications.  It is much simple to simply enable the notifications for a specific group – than to disable.

In this case – where we are monitoring a specific subset of servers, but we don’t consider them critical, or production, or whatever – I recommend the following approach:

Create a group (of Windows Computer Objects) of ALL OTHER servers.  If you have a naming scheme – that matches the non-prod servers, this is easy. If not – I document a strategy here:

You could brand these non-prod servers with a reg key, then create a group of all machines that DON’T have this attribute.  Then scope your notification to that group of “critical” servers.

Subject: [msmom] Disabling notification from specific custom group

Hi!

Is it possible to disable e-mail notifications from specific group of servers in custom group?

We have a lot of test servers monitored and we don’t want to get e-mail messages from these servers. At the same time it will be good to see test server problems on console.

Thanks,

Urmas
