I don’t have a Workgroup computer to test, but I believe it should just be the computer name…basically, whatever it seen under “Full Computer Name” in My Computer- Properties.

Some previous notes that I took on this say “The name on the certificate should match what is in the HostName and Domain registry keys under HKLM\System\CCS\Services\TCPIP\Parameters”, but I’m not sure what those keys contain for Workgroup computers.

So, when I request a certificate for my Gateway Server  I need to give a FQND name from my GW, so if this is in a workgroup how can I give a FQDN?

Also note that if the Gateway is in a Workgroup, the Agents will still need to have certificates in order to have Mutual Authentication with the Gateway. In a domain, only the Gateway will need the certificate.

Absolutely. Since certificates are used for authentication, you can install the gateway component on a server in a Workgroup or an un-trusted domain. The only thing to make sure of is that the agents that are reporting to the gateway are in the same domain/workgroup as the gateway so they can talk directly to it.

A  Gateway Server nedd to be installed in a domain server? Can I install GW Server on a Workgroup server?
