Technical Consultant/SMS Administrator

  • Worked as part of a 5 person administration team to help design, plan and implement Pfizer's global SMS infrastructure for SMS 2003. This included server sizing specifications, bandwidth considerations at remote locations, number of clients per site and management point and distribution point placing. Daily work activities included small to mass application deployments, client side break fix via remote tools and remote control, collection creation and or query creation and report generation for web reports. As a global team, we moved the SMS hierarchy through 2 service packs, and brought on many small remote sites to bring our client base to 80000 systems. Worked with Microsoft gold Partners such as http://www.1e.com/ and have used their products to manage our smaller sites with low bandwidth

My focus was in client health and hardware inventory which comprised of maintaining the custom SMS_DEF.MOF for all Pfizer divisions and making sure all clients reported proper information and were considered healthy.  This involved using custom collections, targeted adverts and a custom mof file to supply our clients and management with the must up to date PC and software inventories.

  • Migrated legacy Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), v1.2 hierarchy into SMS v2.0 and SQL Server 7 systems; currently consisting of 4,500 workstations, and 100 servers. Analyze existing SMS deployment and troubleshoot server, component, and client issues.
  • Designed, documented, implemented and administered the site wide Antivirus Management System using Network Associates McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) and McAfee VirusScan v4.x - v7.x to provide centralized management of all client workstations.
  • Served as a technical consultant and participated in the actual deployment of Windows 2000 Workstation for the Pfizer Inc research facilities. This consisted of participating in OS image development, registry branding specifications, globally consistent packaging standards for applications, packaging and testing of those applications and information gathering using the SMS infrastructure.
  • Implemented Microsoft's automated deployment methodology of security patches and hot fixes for all Intel desktop systems using the SMS Feature Pack for Software Update Services including complete documentation of server and client side configuration, operation and behavior.
  • Assisted in the consolidation of the Pfizer Global Research and Development SMS 2.0 infrastructure, into a single 80,000 node hierarchy.
  • Advise and educate staff on SMS site architecture, SMS package creation, server maintenance, software deployment, and data retrieval.
  • Author of site specific technical writings and FAQ's used to train local support and provide as desk side troubleshooting documents.
  • Assisted in the repair of failed site components and client installations, as well as the reinstallation of sites without Microsoft-recommended hierarchies.
  • Implemented and documented web based automated tools for SMS package deployments using SMS web reporting, vbs scripts and WiseTM packages for software deployments using SMS infrastructures.
  • Administered a Windows NT 4.0/2000 network, resolved second and third level customer desktop issues, resolved common office application issues and assisted in remediation of localized virus out breaks.
  • Designed, implemented and maintained the local site login script using Kix32 and vbs programming.
  • Recommend corporate-wide desktop initiatives to upper management.
  • Proficient in many aspects of trouble shooting including editing system registries, using remote tools and resource kits and accessing web resources such as Microsoft , Premier Support and myITforum.com.
