Enabling the Security Configuration Wizard for Exchange 2007 Server Roles using the Exchange 2007 SCW Extension Files

The Microsoft Exchange Team has supplied 2 Security Configuration Wizard (SCW) Extension Files that allow additional Security Configuration Parameters to be applied in a 'Post-Installation' Scenario.  The Security Configuration Wizard is an Application Microsoft provided beginning with Windows 2003 SP1 to provide a higher degree of configuration parameters specific to Security Settings for Windows Servers and Applications.

You can find good information about installation and configuration of the Security Configuration Wizard here:

In the Exchange 2007 Installation folders the Microsoft Exchange Team has supplied the 2 SCW XML Files specific to Exchange Server Roles.  These 2 Files need to be Registered with the SCW, then applied to the specific Exchange 2007 Server.  A summary of the process is found in the Screen Capture below which is taken from the link 'How to Register Exchange Server Role SCW Extensions'.

I will outline the Steps for using the Security Configuration Wizard to apply each of the Exchange 2007 Extension Files in a separate Blog entry. This entry should permit you to gain an understanding how to 1) Install the SCW on an Exchange 2007 Server, and 2) Register the Exchange 2007 Server SCW Extension which prepares you for initiating the SCW and selecting the Exchange 2007 Extension for securing the respective Exchange 2007 Server.
