How To Get MVLS Info Into ConfigMgr SP1 AI

Okay I finally got my MVLS data inported into ConfigMgr SP1 AI. Here's what you have to do, ask your Microsoft account rep to search for the internal site that is designed “To retrieve a previously calculated Microsoft License Statement (MLS)”. If they use that exact keyword phrase they should be able to find the site that will allow them to get you the file you need as an XLS file. Then follow the instructions for converting that to xml and it works like a charm!

In case you missed it on the Technet forums here's how to convert the xls to xml:

Converting an MLS spreadsheet to XML using Office 2007

Before you start: If you attempt to convert an MLS spreadsheet that was created in Office 2003 (.xls), you will not succeed and Office 2007 will fail with an exception. You must therefore first convert the file to an Office 2007 file.

1.      Open the Office  2003 MLS spreadsheet (xls) with Office 2007 Excel

2.      Select ‘Save as’ Excel Workbook

3.      Verify the MLS spreadsheet has the Office 2007 extension (xlsx)

4.      Open the new Office  2007 MLS spreadsheet (xlsx) with Office 2007 Excel

5.      Select ‘Save as’ XML worksheet

6.      Copy the XML file to the previously created secure SMB share

7.      You have successfully created an importable copy of the MLS statement
