This is completely hilarious, in a B-movie kind of way.

Henry did a great job putting this MMS recap together. Its always a good thing to get the notes and thoughts consolidated into one place. It had to have been quite a bit of work, so thanks!

I have to say, Rod's post does a great job dissecting the fallacy of the latest Apple commercial that basically says that the Mac doesn't get viruses. They do and will continue to exist, probably in increasing numbers, so it alarmed me that Apple would go that far in a commercial.

I also believe that Vista will help even more with the virus problem in the PC world. As a company, we've has had much better success with XP than with Win 2000 and I have no doubt that Vista will be ever better.

On the presentation of the commercial, the PCs are for successful people thing certainly is one way to spin it. The other is that young and cool personifies the Mac and an nerd in a suit personifies the PC. The guy wasn't a geek, he was a nerd. Revenge of the Nerds nerdy.

I never got the impression that the Mac guy, who is Justin Long by the way, was so poor that he gave up his next hundred meals to buy the Mac or anything. Maybe he bought a Mac Mini to replace his PC. Some people don't keep a well maintained baby face like us, Rod. I do have the messy hair though.

It is quite interesting how celebrities seem to come out in small herds to advertise their Macs. There is rarely an Apple commercial that doesn't have a celebrity appearing in or voicing the ad. Where are the Microsoft celebrity fanboys?

If you haven't seen the commercials, here is the wikipedia entry for the ad campaign and the Apple site to watch the ads.

Rod Trent at myITforum.com : Have you seen the new line of Mac commercials?:
It’s pretty funny, actually. Apple does a great job with their marketing. It’s the string of commercials where the geek dressed in a business suit with glasses says, “Hi, I’m a PC”, and the unshaven guy with messed hair and barely enough money for a T-shirt and jeans, says, “Hi, I’m a Mac.”

About Security Update 2006-003:

Safari

CVE-ID: CVE-2006-1457

Available for: Mac OS X v10.4.6, Mac OS X Server v10.4.6

Impact: Visiting malicious web sites may lead to file manipulation or arbitrary code execution

Description: When Safari's "Open `safe' files after downloading" option is enabled, archives will be automatically expanded. If the archive contains a symbolic link, the target symlink may be moved to the user's desktop and launched. This update addresses the issue by not resolving downloaded symbolic links. This issue does not affect systems prior to Mac OS X v10.4.

I just wanted to take a moment to share how excited I am about Nintendo's new console, the Wii. It is a ridiculous name, but it is one of the most exciting concepts I've seen in a long time. In an era of video gaming that is defined by how much imagery can be displayed on the screen, its nice to see a company take a step back and try something new and innovative. I'm not terribly interested in how shiny Bungie can make Master Chief.

Even if the system flops, and I don't think that it will, it will have been a wonderful attempt to capture the magic that video gaming held when the industry was simpler. The Atari 2600 had very simple, but very addictive games. I remember playing RealSports Baseball when I was very young. It wasn't anything near baseball, but it was great fun. Now we have an opportunity to play something that is close to the real thing.

It probably won't be perfect. Most first attempts aren't. If the Nintendo DS is any indication, it may take a while for the game support to be there, though the reported 20+ launch titles leads me to believe otherwise. It sure does beat a rehash of the same old thing that we've seen for the last ten years, even if you can tilt your Dual Un-shock controller.

Even if the Wii concept fails, we can always fall back on the virtual console and play RBI Baseball or something. That would be fine with me.

Apparently the Intel-based Macs have a little keyboard issue. I just noticed this update that will make my keyboard and mouse more reliable. Who wouldn't want a more reliable keyboard and mouse? Really!

This just in. The Playstation 3 will cost a gazillion dollars. Well, maybe not that much, but $499 for the unit with a 20GB HDD and $599 for one with a 60GB. Hmm... no thanks.

Oh, and Sony, thanks for slapping in a rip-off of Nintendo's new remote. I know that took a lot of effort.

This is a great little guide detailing the number of combinations possible for different password lengths, depending on the characters used. Its amazing to see how much just a couple of extra letters can mean.

Personally, I like pass phrases. They're easier to remember and get help get to the more secure password lengths. There is the problem of the predictable sentence, but that is easily alleviated if some attention is paid to the end of the pass phrase. For instance, My name is Joseph. is predictable. My name is Joseph, but you can call me Ralph. isn't. I would much rather hit the 15 character mark than the 40 though.

I'm a pretty big fan of Wikipedia, but Wookieepedia is just the greatest. What's not to like about a giant repository of information about all things Star Wars?

The System Center Service Desk team has started blogging!

I'm looking forward to seeing more information about the product, so blog lots. I'm listening.

On an even better note, my post about that session is the number on Service Desk hit on Google. Now that is cool.

So you just came back from MMS and your stuck in the middle of nowhere. What do you do?

Well, I'm reading the documentation for Zero Touch Installation that is a part of the BDD Solution Accelerator. After sitting through a few presentations last week, I'm feeling rather frisky toward the whole project now. I didn't realize that it would make some little things easier than they are now, so I'm trying to figure out what exactly we need to implement.

Believe it or not, the VMX project I mentioned after MMS last year is coming closer to fruition, so I'll be digging into the documentation for the new version soon.
