Ron,
I was there last night. I have to say that they played much better than they have in the last few weeks. All things considered, I thought they played well. The first 10 minutes were very sloppy. After that, it got more under control.

I thought we looked better with Patrick at PG and Rondo on the wing. It freed Rajon up to cut more, which helped open up the perimeter shooters. Randolph had the quietest 14 pts I've seen since Kalenna was here, but he certainly kept Georgia from establishing an inside presence.

I wasn't thrilled with Bradley, but Idrissi was playing a little thug ball leading up to the technical. Ramel needs to keep his cool a little better. The team was so hyped up coming out of the locker room though!
I'm almost surprised there wasn't more of that.

Georgia is certainly not at our talent level, so I don't think this was a miracle game or anything. However, with all we've been through in the last couple of weeks, we needed a win, let alone a double digit win, to re-establish some confidence.

Kentucky Basketball:
Well…they won last night, but I’m still wondering what is up with this team.

They should be better than this…

The Unofficial Apple Weblog posted an article pointing to this video podcast detailing how to disable the Dashboard in Tiger. Why would you want to do this?

We had an issue with our Mac users who are set up to authenticate with Active Directory. We have a corporate proxy server and a 90 day password expiration in AD. If the user changed their password elsewhere, like Outlook Web Access or on a Windows machine, and logged in using their cached network credentials, then connected to the network and fired up the dashboard, each widget that uses the internet would try to connect, locking out the user.

There are better ways to handle the problem, but this is certainly one solution.

It really is true: this is the last guide you'll ever need. It is absolutely awesome.

The Last iPod Video Guide You’ll Ever Need at Plastic Bugs:
I was recently inspired to create a guide for Mac users who just got themselves a brand new iPod! We’ll go over all the options you’ve got and how to convert absolutely anything and everything: DVDs, TiVo video, messy AVIs, muxed MPEGs and more to iPod compatible video - all within OS X. Along the way, you’ll learn a couple of iPod tips and tricks, too. Don’t worry if you don’t know what a muxed MPEG is. We’ll get to that later!

I've always been fascinated by the amazing things that LEGO master builders build. Its awesome to see the life-sized LEGO sculptures and how much work it takes to build one of them.

The Green Head - The Cool Stuff: LEGO Life Size Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite - 10,000 Bricks!:
Nathan Sawaya is a professional LEGO artist and former LEGO Master Model Builder and he spent 3 months constructing a 10,000 piece, life size (6-foot-tall) replica of Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite almost entirely out of dark gray LEGOs.

The list makes a lot of sense. Classic shouldn't work. OS 9 wasn't designed for an Intel processor. The same goes for older Mac apps, as well as those that require a G5 processor. Kernel extensions make sense too, as they are OS-level components.

The ones that I didn't think of are a little weird though. Screen savers written for the PowerPC architecture? I've never written a screen saver, but I didn't think you'd have to get that low level with it.

The funniest one for me is “Java applets in applications that Rosetta can translate”. I guess Apple couldn't get the two processes to play together nicely. This means that you need to make sure that your browser is a Universal binary. The Mozilla.org Wiki has an article about their progress in getting Firefox and friends up to date.

Its about time that RIM does this. I'm really happy to see the addition of out of the box support.

MacNN | BlackBerries to include PocketMac software:
Research in Motion (RIM) and Information Appliance Associates (IAA) today announced a liscensing agreement whereby RIM will offer PocketMac for BlackBerry to Mac users.

Macworld: News: MWSF: VISE X upgrade can build universal installers:
Mac developers looking to create universal binary versions of their applications have another tool at their disposal. The latest version of VISE X from MindVision Software lets developers build universal installers that run natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.

I've watched UK my entire life. I watch every game. I've been to one this year and have tickets for the UGA game next week. It pains me to say that I dread watching them on Tuesday.

If they don't figure out how to score consistently, we're in for a long year. Fortunately, Morris' return seemed to help, though it didn't show on the scoreboard against Vandy.

Maybe the new strength and conditioning coach will help with some of our issues!

College Basketball:
I am a HUGE Kentucky Wildcat fan for many reasons…

But man, this year is not going to be pretty…come on guys!!

Two good examples of this:

My manager was telling me about an article he read in MSDN magazine. I had read it the night before in one of the MSDN RSS feeds. I got the same information for free and didn't have to turn a page.

I read through MacWorld magazine the other day. It took me about fifteen minutes. There was about 25 pages of content. About four pages were interesting. The rest was just advertisements. Oh and a ton of print about the Macs that were announced a couple of months ago. Never mind that the iMacs they liked so much were made obsolete on Tuesday.

Windows Magazines:
Am I alone in thinking that “Windows IT Pro” magazine is becoming nothing but advertisements any more? I was just thumbing through the January 2006 issue, and I've already encountered two “Essential Guide to...” inserts that almost look like useful articles, but are actually sponsored by vendors.

Chris Pirillo put together a list of the top ten reasons you'll buy a Mac next. My favorite one is below. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the usability of Mac OS.

It took a while to get used to, but I've found that I don't really miss using a Windows box at home. I have my VPN client and Remote Desktop if I need to resolve an issue at work, so I'm never too far away if I need to use a Windows machine. For home, there isn't really anything I can't do.

I have to admit, I was a Windows zealot before I had to start learning the Mac platform for work. I held some of the common and mostly outdated misconceptions about the platform. I think the biggest draw for me is the fact that its different.

Ten Reasons Your Next PC Will Be From Apple (GnomeREPORT):
Knowledge. Don’t let platform bigotry get in the way of understanding and appreciating good technology. We all are better for knowing more, and that’s something you should look forward to doing - not avoiding at all costs. Bury the hatchet if you think that this still is the Mac you first saw in 1984.

It will be nice to see Entourage support for Spotlight, but the real highlight is iSync support. I'm not sure about the PocketPC conjecture, but I would hope that Microsoft would try just a little bit. I would think that it would be nothing but good for Microsoft, as it would open up a whole new audience.

Entourage will receive Spotlight and iSync support by March - The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW):
Keeping the surprises rolling, for all you PDA sync-happy folk out there, Microsoft will also build support for iSync right into Entourage, meaning that devices compatible Sync Services will natively be able to sync with Entourage. Unfortunately, I'm *pretty* sure this ironically excludes PocketPC's, but I could be wrong. You can read more about the announcements and new features at Microsoft's PressPass announcement.

I've been testing the Cingular 2125 for a few days. For those of you that are unfamiliar with it, it is a Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition device. I won't get into the technical specs, as they are here.

All in all, its a good device. The screen is beautiful, though it doesn't hold up to sunlight well. I've rarely found that to be case anyway, but it is still a bit disappointing. Text input is done with a typical T9 system, so it definitely isn't made for typing long email.

I was able to pair it with my PowerBook with no issues, but iSync doesn't detect the phone. It is a Windows Mobile device after all. PocketMac's Smartphone solution doesn't support WM5 yet, either. Fortunately, I can set it up to use Outlook Mobile Access, which is the primary purpose of this exercise anyway.

The 2125 does not include the Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile, so it can't use DirectPush yet. OMA works fine though, so don't fret. Pocket Internet Explorer is also a serviceable option, but it doesn't seem to perform as well as the browser on the Blackberry 8700c I tested a few weeks ago.

Overall, I would have a hard time recommending the device to someone, unless they were in the market for a device that can sync PIM information with an Exchange Server over the air. I don't think many people will be buying this phone to use as a workhorse device. For me, it would be fine, as I don't respond to that many emails on the go. As a matter of fact, I find the keypad a pretty large deterrent, or small in this case, for doing so.

for free! Thank goodness. Windows Media Player for the Mac is really mediocre, so this should help, at least a little bit.

Microsoft offers Flip4Mac for free - The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW):
Flip4Mac is a plugin for Quicktime that allows you to watch Windows Media files in Quicktime itself, and that's pretty cool. However, what is even cooler is that this great little plugin is now available for free thanks to Microsoft.
