T-Mobile Confirms MDA Vario IV

image

T-Mobile has just confirmed the specs and features of their freshly released MDA Vario IV. Here’s what T-Mobile’s MDA Vario IV (similar to the HTC Raphael) has to offer:
• Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional,
• Qualcomm MSM 7200 CPU at 528 MHz,
• GSM/GPRS/EDGE (900/1800/1900 MHz),
• Dualband UMTS/HSDPA (850/2100 MHz) up to 7.2 Mbps,
• Bluetooth 2.0+EDR,
• WiFi b/g and GPS (FM radio?),
• 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM,
• MicroSD memory slot,
• 5-rows slide-out QWERTZ/Y keyboard.

Say what?  A 5-row slide out keyboard???

The other question is, T-Mobile internationally always gets the goods.  Why doesn't T-Mobile in the US ever get it?  T-Mobile in the US looks and reads like a Blackberry shop.  They have the Dash (how OLD is that), the Shadow, and the Wing.  The specs aren't impressive...

I'm not sure how to take "The specs aren't impressive". Are you serious or being sarcastic?

According to Jason Langridge, the Vario IV is essentially the HTC Diamond with a slide out keyboard. One spec for the HTC Diamond that is missing from the above list is VBS resolution for the display, which is pretty good!

The main thing I think I'd miss if I went from the Vario III to the Vario IV would be the tilt of the display on the III - I like that feature a lot.

Sorry for the confusion.  The "specs aren't impressive" refers to the Dash, Shadow, and Wing, their US current inventory, not the Vario IV.

Ah - yes - totally agree with you on that point. We use T-Mobile in our US offices and the lack of up-to-date devices really depresses me and may well cause us to look at AT&T, particularly with the recent announcement that the latter's 3G network is getting faster.

I thought that T-Mobile were working on a 3G deployment and that that might be a factor for why they are selling newer devices. They are going to lose market share, though, if they keep this up.

BTW, Jason Langridge has blogged again about the HTC version of the Vario IV which is now being called the Touch Pro. Sweet device.

T-Mobile is working on 3G but it's in limited markets right now and progressing much slower than I think they anticipated.  It's unfortunate T-Mobile in the US is so late to the game.  Hopefully when they turn on 3G they will have some impressive devices to utilize the technology.  We need GSM competition desperately.

HTC just offically announced the HTC Touch Pro today.  Jason is always ahead of the rest of us.
