How do you cancel a meeting without sending the cancellation notice?

Trying to clean up my Outlook calendar because I noticed some duplicate entries.  On meeting requests, why is there no option to cancel the meeting or just delete it from your calendar without sending a cancellation notice?  Is there no way to do this?  If I accept a meeting, I have the option to delete without sending the cancellation, but why is there no option to do this when I am the requester or host?  I only see Send Cancellation or Don't Cancel and close.

My workaround at this point?  I deleted the dupes, and when it came time to send the cancellation notice, I deleted the recipients in the address line and added my own email address.  Question is, why can't I just delete?  Does Microsoft think I don't know what I'm doing (may be true in some cases)?
