Satanist beating
Scanning the news headlines this morning, I noticed a headline about a satanist getting beat up in New York. You probably know I’ve been following the Philadelphia story, so this one has my interest too. The background is that a 20–year old who calls himself a Satanist was beaten by two 18 year old teenagers apparently over being a satanist. The two 18 year olds were charged with hate crimes. One used a metal club, the other used an ice scraper.
The reason for the blog? They were arraigned yesterday on charges of second-degree assault as a hate crime, possession of a weapon and aggravated harassment. The charges could carry prison terms of up to 15 years. If you’ve read my other blogs, you’ll notice something immediately a little fishy. The four Christians in Philadelphia face charges of up to 47 years in prison. And they didn’t use a weapon, and didn’t beat anyone.
I realize that religion has caused a lot of bloodshed, and people actually think they are doing God (or Allah or…) a service by hurting others, in words or in actions. I don’t agree with it (and don’t think its biblically supported), but I do believe in justice, and the punishment should fit the crime.
