New KB: Update distribution issues in System Center Essentials 2007
Problem:
In Microsoft System Center Essentials 2007, you import updates from partner catalogs. When you do this, you experience the following symptoms.
Symptom 1
The update source files are not correctly downloaded to the server that is running System Center Essentials 2007 during the import process. These files can not be distributed to the managed hosts.
Symptom 2
When selecting Import updates from partner catalogs to start the Update Catalog Import wizard, the Choose Catalog to Import page provides only Http:// and Https:// as choices for the import URL. Some partners store their downloads on FTP sites instead of on Web sites. In this case, you cannot import updates directly from these partners.
Solution:
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for System Center Essentials 2007 SP1 that contains this hotfix.
To obtain the hotfix, submit a request to Microsoft Online Customer Services at http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=6294451
After you apply this hotfix, the update files are correctly downloaded to the System Center Essentials 2007 server from the partner site. Additionally, the Update Catalog Import wizard lets you select an FTP:// path or a UNC path as the import URL.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, some services will automatically restart during the installation process.
