Kerrie Meyler wrote a clear explanation of the System Center Family of products on Network World.  Included is a description of Essentials 2007 and how it fits into tthe larger product line.

It isn't a long article.  System Center is the products Family name, much like Microsoft Office is a Family of products.  Systems Center Essentials 2007 is the product within the System Center Family that is targeted at the midsize company.
