In our efforts to Simplify IT, Dell and Microsoft are currently working together to develop the Dell PRO-Pack (Performance and Resource Optimization Pack), that is designed to simplify systems management of physical and virtual machines on Dell PowerEdge Servers. It also provides optimization awareness down to the workload level so IT administrators can take manual or automated remedial action if an unhealthy or inefficient system is identified.
Dell PRO-Pack , when used with System Center Operations Manager or System Center Essentials, and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2008, provides proactive management for virtual environments. PRO-Pack capability makes Dell Management Packs virtualization-aware and allows IT staff to monitor and manage Dell physical devices and their hosted virtual machines.
For example, the "PRO-enabled" Dell Management Pack ensures that host machines operate under normal power and temperature thresholds. Dell's SCVMM PRO-Alert for temperature will monitor the chassis temperature; if the monitor exceeds normal operations the administrator can automatically trigger a quick migration from one host to another or place the server in maintenance mode. For power monitoring, if one of the redundant power supplies fails an alert is sent giving the option to also perform a quick migration of all Virtual Machines (VMs) to another host in the cluster. Additional PRO- alerts cover monitoring of memory, storage controllers, and disk remediation.
