Virtual Server - Performance
Friday, March 31, 2006 5:16 PM
When I started running my test lab under Virtual Server, I noticed at times that it would pause for a minute while the HD would trash. I posted some question in the mailing list and in the newsgroups; some of the idea did help but… When I came across this blog, man did turn off AV on the *.VHD and *.VSV make a huge difference!  My system almost never “pauses” anymore.

HOWTO: Squeeze Every Last Drop of Performance Out of Your Virtual PCs

If you are looking to get more out of Virtual PC or Virtual Server I recommend that you do a minimum of the flowing:

  • Turn off AV on *.VHD and *.VSV
  • Defrag the host hard drive
  • Defrag all VM hard drives

Also I added "pagedfrg.exe" at start up to every Virtual machine and the host PC.

Everything else helps, but these few things will make a world of difference.

Where's Willy
Friday, March 31, 2006 12:42 PM
It took a few months but I finally have a higher Where’s Willy index than "Peter the Squid". "Peter the Squid" is an old friend from my BBSing days.

Garth Vs. Peter the Squid

You might ask what is Where’s Willy. It is a currency tracker site where you mark a bill with the Where’s Willy web site and wait to see if anyone else enters it on the web site. So far this is my “best” bill http://www.whereswilly.com/report.php?key=b3afe5cbe75307be19473af534cbd60232a56f3ad7e70ef1

For more information about Where’s Willy read the FAQ.

There is a similar site for US bills
