Monitoring AD Security with MOM 2005

Presentation from Feb 23rd meeting. We had a very good turn out for last night’s meeting in which Rory McCaw presented “Monitoring AD Security with MOM 2005” and the event was sponsored by CNC Global Ottawa office.

 

After attending his presentation and after reviewing the presentation reports Rory was give a 5+ out of 5 for his presentation. Rory is an excellent speaker and had lots of demos. If you have a chance to see him give another presentation, I recommend that you see his presentation it will be worth your while.

Many of us still use elevated or even administrator privileges on our desktops. This session is designed to take a scenario based ‘top tips’ approach to taking back control and locking down the machines. We will be looking at the mechanisms to help you not only secure and control the user experience, but manage these settings centrally. At the centre of this will be a ‘top tips list’ for group policy and discussion on handling documents and profiles. We will also discuss other mechanisms for managing the user experience, such as the new Print Manager in Server 2003 R2 for pushing prints via group policy. Throughout the session we will be providing as many best practices, tips and tricks as possible to enable you to take control of the desktop once again

February 23rd 2006 User Group Meeting

Topic: The Monitoring AD Security with MOM 2005

Description: This session will show attendees through multiple demonstrations how MOM 2005 can be used to monitor Active Directory security. Attendees will learn how to create custom security rules that monitor for changes to the local Administrators group on all monitored servers in their environment as well as changes in membership to key groups such as Schema Admins, Enterprise Admins and Domain Admins. Attendees will also leave with a better understanding of how advanced criteria can be used in their MOM 2005 rules to filter out unwanted information and throttle the information collected by MOM 2005 so that only the most relevant information is collected. This presentation will also explore the Secure Vantage Management Pack and demonstrate the rules and reports included in it that can allow you to quickly and easily begin monitoring security within your environment.
