Trains anyone?
Sunday, January 23, 2005 1:03 PM

Just about every weekend I go over to wife’s parents place to “Play Trains”. Most of the time it is to help with his very very small business, (I help my wife with the bookkeeping or I am the 24/7 helpdesk ) it is so small it does not even have a web site (yet). This is the closes thing to a web site that he has to one http://www3.sympatico.ca/cds_lettering_ltd/default.htm or http://www.tmrdistributing.com/CDS.htm

Anyways everyone who ever hears about his “Train Set” always thinks that it is a small table top idea. There is no way for me to explain how big it is, other than to say it is the WHOLE basement!

The day after our wedding we invited everyone over to her parents’ place and it was fun to watch everyone come down stairs to see the train set, er “layout”. Although this web site does not do it justice it does give you an idea.  Tom Hood's Page

If you are ever in town and want to see it, let me know, I will arrange for a tour.

Thief with samurai sword robs Winnipeg McDonald's
Thursday, January 20, 2005 6:16 PM

WINNIPEG - A man brandishing a samurai sword forced his way through the drive-thru window to rob a McDonald's restaurant in Winnipeg on Sunday.

The thief, who also wielded a pipe, climbed through the window at about 5:30 a.m. He held the sword to the throat of the restaurant's 17-year-old manager, forcing him to open a back door to an accomplice.

The robbers bound three employees with duct tape and forced the manager to give them cash.

They tied him up and fled the restaurant, which is located in the southern part of the city at Pembina Highway and Chancellor Drive.

The victims, who weren't injured, eventually freed themselves and called police.

Winnipeg police commended staff for how they handled the situation.

"A male coming to a drive-thru window armed with a sword and a pipe is going to be intimidating for anyone, let alone this 17-year-old manager," said Const. Shelly Glover.

"These employees did a fantastic job, given the trauma that they were obviously suffering."

Police said the suspects wore balaclavas, sunglasses and dark clothing. They didn't say how much money was taken.

Where have you been hiding?
Sunday, January 09, 2005 2:24 PM

Ever so often I get asked the question “Where have you been hiding?”.

Now to answer the question for everyone and to show them what it looks like.  I am still working on my basement!  I know that Ellen would love it to be fully completed but …. At least she is happy because it is now in a usable state, again.

My new office in its current state. Where is the printer and the phone?

The Bar, from this picture you can’t tell but I just “stocked the bar” today  Chocolate Martinis anyone? Don’t you just love the lawn chairs!

The new furniture has been ordered but it will take 8 more weeks for it to be delivered.

Rumour has it that shortly I will become very busy with a few projects. This means that I have to get as much of the “fine tuning” done as possible.

$65 million
Saturday, January 08, 2005 10:05 PM

I just donated online and I was trying to find out how much has been donated so far within Canada.

This stat is as of January 6 2005. I wonder what it will be as of January 11, when the Canadian Government matching program ends.

Amount donated so far by Canadians to non-governmental organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross.

Don’t forget about MOM!
Saturday, January 08, 2005 8:00 PM

Michael Niehaus wrote a fantastic BLOG about RSS feeds for Microsoft newsgroups.

http://www.myitforum.com/blog/mniehaus/archive/2005/01/08/1546.aspx

Three things:

1) A few Newsgroups don’t work.

Newsgroups that don’t work are:

  • microsoft.public.sms.software_updates
  • microsoft.public.mom.reporting
  • microsoft.public.mom.sdk
  • microsoft.public.mom.security
  • microsoft.public.mom.setup_upgrade
  • microsoft.public.mom.ui
  • microsoft.public.mom.workgroupedition

2) When will Microsoft implement RSS feeds for all newsgroups?

3) Don’t forget about the MOM news groups as well.

  • microsoft.public.mom
  • microsoft.public.mom.managementpack
  • microsoft.public.mom.managementpack.ad
  • microsoft.public.mom.managementpack.exchange
  • microsoft.public.mom.managementpack.iis
  • microsoft.public.mom.managementpack.sql
