The Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Step By Step Install Guide

 

Provided here is a step by step installation guide for you to upgrade your ConfigMgr 2007 site as well as some notes and tips to ensure that the upgrade process initiates and completes successfully.

 

1. From the installation media launch the Configmgr2007R2.Msi executable to initiate the process.

2. From the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 dialog box select “Next” at the “Welcome to the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Setup Wizard” task screen.

3. At the “License Agreement” task screen select “Print License Agreement” or review the license agreement and then select “I accept the license agreement” and click “Next” to continue.

4. From the “Registration Information” task screen enter your “Name”, “Organization” and then “Enter your 25-digit product key” and select “Next”.

5. From the Installation task screen select “Next” to begin the installation.

 

The Installation Process task screen will now appear showing you the current actions performed within the process for 5 to 10 minutes depending on your hardware.

 

6. Select “Next” when the process has completed.

7. At the “Setup Complete” task screen select “Finish”

 

Notes And Tips:

 

  • You do not need to extend the Active Directory schema for ConfigMgr 2007 R2 or initiate it again for a Service Pack (SP) 1 server installation however the benefits of extending it can add value to your site hierarchy.
  • Verify that no unresolved ConfigMgr 2007 issues are occurring by examining the status messages and log files.
  • Back up your production server or lab server in case any irrecoverable problems materialize.
  • Disable SQL Server Database Replication if it is running in your environment before performing the installation.
  • Restart the server to ensure that no pending actions or processes are pending.
  • Upgrade your existing ConfigMgr 2007 consoles to ensure that the new and improved R2 features are available
  • The ConfigMgr 2007 product version number does not change in the Management console.
