Here you will find a quick guide that will allow you to check on unhealthy clients as reported by the Microsoft SMS 2003 Client Health Monitoring Tool
In order to ensure that you are reviewing the latest or most recent data you should first make sure that the “Client Health Pivot Table Report” is up to date and then we can get an accurate assessment of the clients to review the unhealthy ones by following the steps below.
1. From the Programs group select “Microsoft SMS 2003 Client Health Monitoring Tool”. Then select “Client Health Pivot Table Report”.
2. The Microsoft Excel - ClientHealthPivot.xls spreadsheet opens. From the “Pivot Table” floating toolbar menu use the “Pivot Table” drop down arrow and select “Refresh Data”
Note: If the Refresh Data dialog box appears you can select “Don’t show this menu again.” If needed otherwise select “OK” to continue with the next step.
Tip: If the “Pivot Table” floating toolbar menu does not appear (Step 2) select “View” from the Excel toolbar and then select “Toolbars” and then select “Customize”. From the Customize dialog box scroll down and place a check in the box “Pivot Table”. When the “Pivot Table” floating toolbar appears click “Close” on the Customize dialog box.
3. At this point the latest client health data information is displayed
4. In Cell A16 (“Classification”) of the Microsoft Excel - ClientHealthPivot.xls spreadsheet use the drop down arrow and deselect all but “Unhealthy” and then click “OK”.
5. Under Cell B16 (“LastPingResult”) of the Microsoft Excel - ClientHealthPivot.xls spreadsheet you will see a list such as the one shown below:
Offline – No Name Resolution
Offline – Not Pingable
Online – Access Denied
6. Next double click one of the items listed in the “LastPingResult” section such as “Offline – No Name Resolution” and this will bring up the Show Detail dialog box where you can “Choose the field containing the detail you want to show” and select “Name” and then click “OK”
7. At this point a new column is added for “Name” listing those machines that are deemed as having No Name Resolution.
8. To see further details for a machine such as the “LastUser” double click on the machine name in question and this will bring up the Show Detail dialog box again where you can select “LastUser” or any of the following available fields listed below and this will add an additional column for “LastUser” next to the Name column.

9. At this point you can save the spreadsheet if needed otherwise close it.
