Microsoft has provided a testing query for you to use to see if your SMS 2003 client or even your ConFigMgr 2007 client(s) can access their Management Point (MP) server using Internet explorer.
To test the MP connectivity from Internet Explorer enter the following into the address bar where Mp_Server_Name is the NetBIOS name of the MP server:
http://Mp_Server_Name/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist
Examples
http://SmsServer01/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist
http://SmsServer02:80/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist
If you receive a blank page with an SMS 2003 client the connection is successful.
If the MP connections from a ConFigMgr 2007 client have been successful something similar to the following will be displayed:
<MPList>
<MP Name="SmsServer01" FQDN="SmsServer01.DomainName.Com">
<Version>5931</Version>
<Capabilities SchemaVersion="1.0" />
</MP>
</MPList>
If the server name is incorrect or was entered wrong the Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage error will be displayed or you may receive the error The page cannot be displayed error depending on the version of IE you are running. I have also seen the error Bad Query String! Appear when running the test query on some ConFigMgr clients.
If connectivity cannot be established errors such as the following may be displayed:
401.3 Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

Testing management point connectivity is just one of those things that SMS/ConfigMgr admins need to do
