The Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 Release Candidate Documentation

Carol posted this on the "Configuration Manager Writers - Announcements, Comments and other Stuff" blog so I thought I'd post it here as well:

"Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 RC is now available for download on the Connect site. This includes the accompanying documentation, which includes the following:

  • Minor updates and corrections to the Configuration Manager 2007 documentation.
  • Prerelease content for Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 (Asset Intelligence, and out of band management).
  • Prerelease content for Configuration Manager 2007 R2 (application virtualization, Forefront client security integration, client status reporting, SQL reporting services, operating system deployment enhancements that include support for unknown computers and multicast).

All new or modified content in this documentation since the Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 Beta update contains Topic last updated – March 2008. For a list of the topics changed, see “What’s New in the Configuration Manager Documentation Library for March 2008”.

This documentation update will not be published to the Web and is available only by downloading Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 RC from the Connect site. The documentation will be published to the Web with the official release (RTM) of Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, even though it will still contain preliminary content for Configuration Manager 2007 R2. All topics changed since the SP1 RC release will have Topic last updated – May 2008.

Documentation for Out of Band Management

Most of the changes in the documentation between the SP1 RC release and SP1 RTM are in the out of band management feature. Of particular note are the following 4 topics:

  • Prerequisites for Out of Band Management. This topic has a couple of additions.
  • Determine Whether to Configure an AMT Provisioning and Discovery Account for Out of Band Management. This is a new topic to help guide you through whether you need to specify an account for AMT provisioning and discovery, and if so, what values to use.
  • Decide How to Migrate from an AMT-Based Management Solution to Out of Band Management in Configuration Manager. This has minor revisions, and is applicable if you are currently running Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) Add-on for Microsoft SMS 2003, and you want to migrate these computers to be provisioned and managed out of band by Configuration Manager 2007 SP1.
  • Configuration Manager AMT Provisioning Process for Out of Band Management. This is a new technical reference topic that steps through the technical process flow of provisioning out of band, and provisioning in-band. You can use this information to develop a better understanding of how provisioning works, and to help you interpret the log file entries if you are troubleshooting."
