So, today I’m in my customer’s office, and one of my co-workers has been talking about Xobni. So, after a bit of this, and looking at it on his laptop, I decide to give it another try. After about 18 months without it, I now have it installed and am pretty impressed with what I’m seeing. They’ve changed their purchasing model to a subscription, and the most economical purchase is the annual subscription. They have added gadgets, so that you can tie into other web 2.0 services such as Evernote and Dropbox (my two favorites). You can share files (via Dropbox) as well as notes (via Evernote) within the Xobni interface, which makes everything convenient.

The second purchase was actually to unlock Evernote to allow for posting of pretty much any attachment. I have a folder in Outlook where I store items that I’ll need down the road, such as procedures to get certain information out of different groups within my employer, notes from other organizations, etc. I did pretty much the same subscription model here, and now have the best of both worlds.

Why Evernote over OneNote? Well, with the online version of Evernote, I can sync to my phone, tablet, etc. without having to tether. Plus, both my phone and tablet are Android based, so the idea that I can leverage these notes on pretty much any platform is a wonderful thing. Just a quick sync, and I’m done.

Sitting in a conference room with my customer, we’re trying to get a computer in another country to map a disk drive back to the corporate data center, and the humor is in typing in the password, with special characters, without knowing where on the foreign keyboard those characters reside!

Recently, I downloaded this at the recommendation of a friend from Microsoft, and I have to say, it's one heck of a replacement for Task Manager! If you've not seen or played with this yet, I highly recommend that you download it and evaluate it. I have to say, Mark Russinovich has done it again with this little tool.

Windows Process Explorer gives much more information than Task Manager ever thought of giving.

I would recommend that anyone that uses Task Manager in Windows give this a look. Some of the views available are:

DLL view
Handle View
User’s Menu
Searching
Reporting Bugs

With all the turmoil in the market today and the collapse of Lehman Bros and Acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America this might be some good advice.

For all of you with any money left, be aware of the next expected mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks.

Watch for these consolidations later this year:

I’ve just read through an off-topic thread in the SMS/SCCM mailing list on MyITforum, and thought about some of the interviews that I’ve participated in over the past few years (both where I was the interview-er, as well as the interview-ee).

I thought this would bring up a good topic for discussion outside the thread, so here goes:

What is the most interesting question you’ve either asked or been asked in a job interview?

As an answer from me, as the interview-er, I have asked the following:

So what do you want to do when you grow up?
Explain your job to a 4 year old.

As the interview-ee, I’ve been asked questions like:

If one day, you have what appears to be a perfectly running SMS environment, then the next day you come in and all of your collections are empty, and after a collection refresh, they’re all empty, what do you do?

So, come on, what are some of the questions? I thought this might make for some useful insight and all questions are welcome! As far as the answers go, I’ll leave it up to you as to if they’re posted or not.

The technical question above that I was asked was where the person conducting the interview had experienced this in the past, and was looking for a specific answer (corrupt DDR). However, he was quite impressed when I walked through the troubleshooting aspects to figure out what was going on, and therefore provided positive feedback for the interview.
