Wow, that didn’t last long! I haven’t actually posted in a little while, but the HP 6515 that I wrote about in my last blog got returned that very Friday! I was given a new QTEK 9100 at my office that is running Windows Mobile 5.0 and is completely unlocked. This device is much smaller, but it does pack a punch.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the HP device, but when presented with a free device, it’s kind of hard to justify keeping the one you bought! Anyway, for anyone that reads my blog (all two of us!), I would recommend highly to wait on the Mobile 5 devices. They’re slowly coming to market, and with the expansion that Cingular is planning to their network, it would be wise to ask if the devices support UMTS. If not, I wouldn’t give the phone a second nod. Although UMTS isn’t widely available as of yet, it is the network that Cingular is migrating to, and can pack speeds up to 14.4 Mps (although Cingular doesn’t have it opened that far, and phooey on them for that!).
Anyway, I’ve found that the improvements around Windows Mobile 5 are definitely worth the wait, and the performance that’s due out with the hardware will make it worth while!
