When the telephone companies, cable companies, and wireless companies truly converge into a single service provider that provides everything wirelessly. I was reading on techdirt this morning where Mike wrote about the gradual merging of Telco, Cable and Wireless into the “Connectivity” industry. He went on to say that basically, they’re all working towards the same end, where they all offer the same services, eventually in the same manner.
I just got a new laptop from my office (Dell D410). Everyone that has seen it says that it’s pretty cute, since it’s so small. I have to say that giving up the weight that I had lugging around a D810 in deference for an equally strong D410 has really been a nice switch for me. The only thing that I feel like I’ve given up is the real-estate of the screen. Anyway, since I’ve seemingly gone off down a rabbit hole here, let me get back to the subject. I’ve found that with this laptop, I’ve been able to go “wireless” much more easily than even with the 810. Could this be that since it’s smaller, it just makes more sense? I would like to think so. I feel like I’m truly carrying a mobile device, rather than a portable pc.
It sure is nice to be able to connect wirelessly pretty much where ever I go (except Starbuck’s and book stores, because I don’t pay for T-mobile’s internet — Why, when I can get online for free in so many other places?), and I’ve found myself getting connected more often, and calling on my blackberry to find out if they offer free wireless and making my decision to go there based on that.
I’m curious to know if I’m the unique one, or is this becoming normal? Should I consider subscribing to T-Mobile’s internet, or continue my never-ending search for places that offer service for free? I’ve found several that I enjoy, and although the food there is great, I do wish for peace & quiet every now & then. Too bad my local public library doesn’t offer this as well, as I would have my own table there every day!
