  • Google Desktop Search Wishlist

Well, after looking around I’ve found a thing or two that I would like to get the Google developers to consider when moving either to Beta 3 or production release 1.0.

First, it would be nice to be able to categorize the RSS feeds in the sidebar.  I will use the RSS aggregator that comes with the Desktop Search, but I can’t give up RSS Bandit, simply because there is a lot more organization inside RSS Bandit.

Second, the To do list is nice and functional for a quick and dirty to-do list.  However, it would be nice if it were developed with the option of plugging in to Outlook (or some other PIM).  Rather than having something completely separate (not a bad start), I would prefer to have the outlook tasks show up there instead.  Unfortunately, I’m not a programmer, and have not the expertise to implement such a solution.  If there’s someone out there to take this on, please let me know, and I’ll happily beta test it!

  • New Google Desktop Search Engine (BETA 2 - Will they ever go to production versioning???)

I installed the Google Desktop today, and have really enjoyed the sidebar add-in that they have included.  This morning, I was all hyped up about it, and downloading plug-ins and poking around and just enjoying the new features such as the automated RSS subscription.

The RSS automation will automatically look at the pages that you have been to for syndication and will automatically check back for updates.  I thought that was pretty cool!  Anyway, I just wanted to say that I only found one thing wrong with it so far.  The initial indexing bombs your pagefile.  I have a laptop with 2GB of RAM (I do a lot of Virtual Labs), and my pagefile was up to 2.77GB after the indexing was complete.  After exiting and re-entering the desktop application, all was well, as my pagefile utilization dropped back to within normal expectations.
