We ask ourselves : we have Configuration Manager, so is there any best practice when we want to install a client antivirus on our site servers ??? The answer is YES there are many.
An new update to that subject has been published today by Microsoft via a very good blog which describes all that you need to know.
Enjoy
Last week, I’ve tried to install FEP 2010 Server, but for a unknown reason I’ve received the following error message :
It’s the first time I see that. And after a search I found the solution . So, it was related to a registry key named which is the cause of the problem. This one is named PendingFileRenameOpeations stored under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager. I just removed this key and I was able to run the FEP server installation.

Hope it helps.
A new KB2449910 has been published by Microsoft to solve a ConfigMgr's crashes when trying to create a model-based report in ConfigMgr R3.

Now with ConfigMgr v.Next you are the possibility to create and assign the client agent settings to a specific collection, so each one can have its own settings contrary to ConfigMgr 2007.
In the following example, we will see how to disable Remote control on only one collection.
1. On ConfigMgr console, click right on Client Agent Settings then Create Custom Settings.

2. Give a name to the new settings then click on Add/remove Features.

3. Now you can all settings that you need and especially the Remote control one.

4. Double click on Enable remote control on client and change the value to False then click ok.

5. Now the new CA settings rule is created, to assign it, click right on it then click on Assign.

6. Choose the target collection then click ok.

7. You can see now that the new rule is assigned.

8. Now you’re not able to take remote control on a machine included on this collection.

8. Also, on the client, on the ConfigMgr properties/Components, you see that the Remote Tools Agent is not enabled.

The Tech·Ed Europe 2010 videos are available for online, you will able to see all sessions around Windows 7, virtualization, System Center, Forefront and more …

1. Active Directory Delta Discovery :
From this Technet link
“Active Directory Delta discovery in Configuration Manager 2007 R3 lets you improve the performance of resource discovery by periodically scanning Active Directory for only new or changed resources. Delta discovery does not replace other Configuration Manager 2007 discovery methods. Because it only finds new or modified resources in Active Directory, it must be used together with a discovery method that performs a full synchronization with Active Directory. Use the following procedure to configure delta discovery in Configuration Manager 2007 R3.”
How to :
Go to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> – <site name> / Site Settings / Discovery Methods.
You can enable Delta Discovery only for these discovery methods :
- Active Directory System Group Discovery
- Active Directory Security Group Discovery
- Active Directory System Discovery
- Active Directory User Discovery

2. Dynamic collection evaluation :
From this Technet link
“Dynamic collection evaluation in Configuration Manager 2007 R3 periodically scans for new resources and updates a collections membership with only these new resources, independently of a full collection evaluation. When enabled for a collection, dynamic collection evaluation runs every 5 minutes and when used in conjunction with full collection evaluation can help keep collection data displayed in the administrator console more up-to-date.”
How to :
Click right on your collection and go to Membership Rules then check the “Dynamically add new ressources”

In the part V we will talk about how to add ressource to a collection with R3. See you soon
After installing R3 package Part I and applying the based configuration to enable the PowerMgt support Part II , now it’s time to start to configure the PowerMgt setting on collection(s).
1. Right click on collection and go “Modify Collection Settings”

2. On “Power Management” tab you find the different options

Customized Peak (ConfigMgr) or Customized Non Peak (ConfigMgr) :
You can customize all the settings related to energy management as needed

Balanced (ConfigMgr) :
Offers maximum performance when you need it and saves power during periods of inactivity.

High Performance (ConfigMgr) :
Optimizes system performance and response times. The laptop users may find that their batteries do not last as long when using this mode

Power Saver (ConfigMgr) :
Saves energy by reducing system performance. This mode can allow laptop users to optimize their use of a single battery charge

When clients recieve the new strategies, you can see the changement of Power Settings under Control Panel/Power Options

When non peak time, you can see a customized energy plan has been assigned WindowsTouch Power (ConfigMgr)

Power Computers with Multiple Power Plans : Displays a list of computers with multiple power plans applied.
